Age, exposure to the sun and other environmental influences can damage the skin over time. Since wrinkles and sagging tissue are not the ideal of beauty for the 21st century, many men and women are considering having their skin tightened. There are many ways to do this in plastic surgery – so-called radio frequency therapy is a particularly modern method. This gentle method works with radio waves that heat the deeper tissue and thus lead to a natural tightening. With radiofrequency therapy, Dr. Matiasek supports you on the way to a fresh and young-looking face as well as a slim and well-shaped body!
When is radio frequency therapy used?
Radiofrequency therapy is a modern method of tightening the skin. It is suitable both for smoothing wrinkles on the face and for treating slack connective tissue on the rest of the body. Dr. Matiasek uses radio frequency therapy to fulfill the following aesthetic wishes for his patients:
- Reduction of wrinkles on the face, neck and décolleté
- Greater contouring of the chin or cheeks
- Treating scars – such as acne scars – and rosacea
- Cellulite reduction
- Tightening and strengthening of the connective tissue on the chest, stomach, buttocks, thighs or upper arms
To achieve such results, Dr. Matiasek uses a special device over your skin as part of radiofrequency therapy. This sends out radio waves and heats the tissue to around 41 to 43 degrees Celsius. As a result of the heat, existing collagen fibers in the lower layers of the skin contract, which is why you will notice a tightening effect immediately after the treatment. In addition, the radio frequency waves stimulate the body to break down fat tissue and to produce new collagen and elastin. These two substances ensure that the tissue regenerates itself over time. You and your skin will benefit from radio frequency therapy in the long term.
Who is radiofrequency therapy suitable for?
Since radio frequency therapy is a non-invasive and a low-risk method of skin tightening, Dr. Matiasek performs them on almost all patients. In principle, it is therefore suitable for women and men of all ages. However, if the skin is very slack, radiofrequency therapy alone may not be enough to achieve the desired results. In this case, Dr. Matiasek will be happy to provide you with information on treatment options that can be used in combination or as an alternative to radiofrequency therapy.
In addition, there are some situations when Dr. Matiasek advises against performing radiofrequency therapy. You should postpone the appointment to a later point in time or forego the procedure entirely if:
- You have had an injection of hyaluronic acid in the affected skin area within the last four weeks.
- You are currently pregnant.
- The areas of skin to be treated are currently not healthy, for example if you have psoriasis or eczema.
- You have heart disease or blood clotting problems.
- You have skin cancer or a chronic skin disease.
What do I have to consider before radiofrequency therapy?
Dr. Matiasek receives his patients for a detailed consultation before each treatment. In it, he asks about your exact wishes and ideas and analyzes the areas of skin to be treated. He then explains to you the advantages and disadvantages of the possible therapy methods and you decide together on the best method. Then Dr. Matiasek makes a detailed treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
Before the first appointment for radiofrequency therapy, you should also observe a few rules of conduct so that the session can run as efficiently and without complications as possible. Do not use anything that could irritate your skin in the last few days before treatment. These include, for example, aggressive skin ointments, chemical peels and depilatory creams. In addition, you should protect your skin from direct sunlight. Always ensure adequate UV protection and avoid extensive sunbathing and solarium visits a few weeks before the appointment. Last but not least, Dr. Matiasek advises his patients to reduce alcohol and tobacco consumption before radiofrequency therapy. These substances have been shown to slow down the regeneration of the skin.
How does radiofrequency therapy work?
When you are ready for your appointment with Dr. Matiasek, he first cleanses the areas of skin to be treated from any cosmetic products that may have been applied. He then applies a special gel that helps the tissue absorb the radio waves. Anesthesia is not necessary as radiofrequency therapy does not cause pain.
Once all the precautions are in place and you are in a comfortable position, the real deal begins. To this end, Dr. Matiasek applies a special device in circular movements over the skin. This secretes radio waves, which heat the tissue and thus ensure it is tightened. You may feel a slight tingling sensation or a feeling of warmth. Finally, Dr. Matiasek removes the gel and, if necessary, applies a mask or cream to soothe the skin. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, a session lasts between 20 and 60 minutes.
In order to achieve optimal results, Dr. Matiasek will repeat the radiofrequency therapy several times. In total, you should take about three to six treatments with an interval of two to four weeks.
What complications can radiofrequency therapy cause?
The great advantage of radio frequency therapy is that it is very gentle on the skin and does not require any incisions. Slight redness and swelling may occur immediately after the treatment – but these symptoms are nothing to worry about and will go away on their own after a short time. With radiofrequency therapy, you do not have to worry about severe pain, unsightly scars or other complications. Dr. Matiasek is very careful with all treatments and pays attention to the highest quality and hygiene standards in his consultations.
What do I have to consider after radiofrequency therapy?
After the session, you can go home immediately and are immediately socially acceptable again. However, Dr. Matiasek recommends that his patients follow a few rules for optimal follow-up care in the first few weeks. It is best to apply a cream with a high sun protection factor to your skin every day and avoid sunbathing and visits to the solarium for some time. This will prevent discoloration from developing in the renewed tissue cells.
In addition, you can support your skin by regularly using moisturizing creams or masks. A high fluid intake from the inside also leads to more elasticity of the tissue – an adult person should consume about one and a half to two liters of water every day. In the best-case scenario, you should also refrain from consuming alcohol and cigarettes after radiofrequency therapy. A healthy lifestyle without these pollutants has been shown to lead to a better complexion.
When are the results of radiofrequency therapy visible?
Since the radio waves add tension to the existing collagen fibers, you will usually notice a slight tightening effect after the first session. However, it takes some time for the body to produce new collagen and elastin. In addition, a single treatment is usually not enough to achieve the desired result. For this reason, you have to be patient – the final result will take several sessions over two to three months. In return, however, you will benefit from a natural, fresh and young appearance over a long period of time!
