Increasing age and frequent exposure to the sun lead to ever increasing damage to the skin. What remains are slack tissue and unsightly wrinkles. Dr. Matiasek offers many different possibilities in his consultation to help men and women to look young, fresh and natural again. Thread lifting is the optimal solution for everyone who prefers a gentle method and would rather do without incisions in the skin.

How does thread lift work?

A thread lift is a special technique used to treat wrinkles and sagging skin. The big advantage compared to conventional facelifts is that no cuts are necessary in the skin and, accordingly, no major scars remain. Instead, this method uses a very fine needle and special plastic threads are inserted into your skin through small punctures. There are two different materials to choose from:

Polydioxanone threads or PDO threads stimulate collagen production in the tissue and increase the volume of the skin. Pull threads or Silhouette Soft threads, on the other hand, are equipped with small barbs. They anchor themselves in the tissue, make it harder and, so to speak, support the body surface from the inside. After the thread lift, your skin looks naturally more voluminous, firmer, fresher and younger. Over time, the threads will resolve on their own, but you can still say goodbye to your wrinkles for two to three years.

Depending on how slack your skin is, there are three different types of thread lift:

  • V-Lift- or L-Lift: This method is suitable for early wrinkles on the face or décolleté. As a rule, very thin PDO threads are used.
  • Freefloating thread lift or Happy lift: This procedure can be considered if the skin is a little slacker. Somewhat thicker threads with barbed hooks are used.
  • Anchor lift: This variant is recommended for the correction of very deep wrinkles. Here, the hanging skin is brought back into shape with strong pulling threads.

Apart from that, Dr. Matiasek also carries out so-called one-stitch thread lifting in his practice. It is a modern combination of thread lifting and conventional lifting. If necessary, all of these interventions can be supplemented with an injection of hyaluronic acid, Botox or PRP. In this way, particularly good and long-lasting results can be achieved that meet your individual requirements.

When is thread lift used?

The thread lift is suitable for all men and women who want a significant tightening of their sagging skin but prefer treatment without a scalpel. Most patients turn to a plastic surgeon for facial or décolleté wrinkle correction. Depending on your wishes, the threads are inserted on the forehead, eyebrows, cheeks, lips, chin and/or neck. This is how you shine afterwards with your young and fresh appearance.

Furthermore, the thread lift is suitable for the treatment of overstretched skin, for example after pregnancy or weight loss. Whether on the stomach, on the upper arms, on the chest, on the buttocks or on the thighs – all these areas can be tightened with the thread lift. The procedure can even help with cellulite, better known as orange peel. In these problem areas, patients are advised to combine them with other skin tightening methods so that the results are definitely satisfactory.

Who is thread lift suitable for?

Thread lifting is particularly suitable for wrinkles that appear between the ages of 30 and 50. In people who have already passed this age, the skin is often so slack that thread lifting alone would not lead to satisfactory results. In such cases, other methods of wrinkle correction or a combination of different techniques are more suitable.

However, there are a few other reasons that speak against a thread lift. Skin tightening is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Men and women under the age of 18 should also postpone treatment to a later date. In addition, no acute or chronic diseases such as acne or herpes may be present in the affected area during the thread lift. Patients with a bleeding disorder, hemophilia, excessive scarring or autoimmune diseases such as rheumatism or Crohn’s disease should refrain from a thread lift.

Before the treatment, it must also be ensured that you are not allergic to the material used. Please also let Dr. Matiasek know in advance whether you have recently had a chemical peel or laser treatment carried out on the affected skin area. In this case, depending on the nature of your material, you may have to wait a little longer before the thread lift.

What do I have to consider before the thread lift?

At the beginning of every treatment, there is a detailed consultation. In it, Dr. Matiasek asks about your ideas, expectations and concerns. Your skin will also be thoroughly examined to assess which method will give you the best results. If a thread lift is the method of choice and there are no reasons that speak against it, the procedure can be started immediately after the conversation.

In the two weeks before the thread lift, you should no longer take vitamin C or blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen or diclofenac. Patients are recommended to refrain from cigarettes and alcohol so that their skin is better supplied with blood. If you fall ill with an acute infection or cold shortly before the appointment, please inform Dr. Matiasek about this in the consultation. The same applies if a dental operation is due immediately before the treatment. If you follow all of these tips, nothing stands in the way of a thread lift that runs smoothly.

How does a thread lift work?

Before the treatment can be started, Dr. Matiasek draws on the affected areas of the skin to show exactly how the threads should run. He then applies a numbing cream around the planned puncture sites or injects a pain reliever. As soon as you can no longer feel anything, Dr. Matiasek inserts sutures with a special hollow needle perpendicular or across the muscles. Thanks to the small barbs, they remain firmly anchored in the subcutaneous fatty tissue. Your skin can be optimally modeled through gentle massage movements and light pulling on the threads. When the entire mesh is in the desired location, the needle is removed, and the threads are tightened. The treatment is completed after about 30 to 45 minutes. Afterwards, you can, in principle, go straight home – but you are also welcome to take a rest at the practice.

What complications and risks does a thread lift entail?

Compared to other wrinkle treatments, a thread lift is considered to be extremely low risk. Slight swelling or bruises often appear immediately after the treatment. However, these are nothing to worry about and will go away on their own within a day or two. Since it is clarified in advance in the consultation whether you suffer from an intolerance to the materials used, allergic reactions are as good as impossible. You don’t have to worry about infections either, as Dr. Matiasek adheres to the highest quality and hygiene standards in his ordinations. In the period immediately after a neck lift, it is important that you take care of your body. Depending on your professional activity, it makes sense to take sick leave for one to two weeks so that your body can relax in peace. Avoid sporting activities for the first four to six weeks – sunlight, solarium and sauna are also taboo for the time being. The consumption of alcohol and nicotine can have a negative effect on wound healing, which is why you should keep both to a minimum. Make sure to keep the agreed appointments for the check-ups so that Dr. Matiasek can observe the healing process and control the success of the treatment.

What do I have to consider after a thread lift?

You can alleviate slight swelling, pain or bruising by cooling the affected areas of the skin. Apart from these after-effects, you are immediately socially mobile again and can go back to your usual activities. However, in the first 24 hours after the procedure, it is better to avoid using make-up and creams. You should also avoid strong facial movements, exercise and direct sunlight for a few days. You will have to wait about two weeks with other treatments near the puncture site. In any case, Dr. Matiasek will also be with you personally.

When are the results of a thread lifting visible?

The threads used immediately tighten the skin, but over time also stimulate collagen production in the tissue. You can therefore look forward to a double effect with the thread lift – you will see the first effects immediately after the appointment and the final result after about two to four months. Until the body breaks the threads again, your skin will stay firm and rejuvenated for about two to three years. If the results wear off, feel free to contact Dr. Matiasek. Thus, you are guaranteed a long-term result!
